A Wedding in Iran, A Jury That Will Not Budge

Five people were killed and sixty seven wounded, by the Iranian government's count and a New York Times weapons analysis alike. Washington said it could carry out a similar strike again if it chose to, a statement that reads as either deterrence or a threat depending on where you sit. Closer to home in spirit if not geography, a Boston jury spent another day refusing to agree on a verdict in the Lindsay Clancy case, and the research on holdout jurors is not encouraging: once a panel reports itself stuck, it tends to stay stuck, no matter how sternly a judge asks it to try harder. Science had the week's better news, or at least its funnier version, with the Ig Nobel prizes handing out honours for cockroach milk and the physics of nose blowing, serious research wearing a straight face. And Fox Business lost Maria Bartiromo, its closing bell anchor for two decades, in a departure the network is still explaining.
